Take Three

When I was 12, my Dad took me on set in New York to a reality TV show we watched every week on the Speed channel.

I was excited to meet the people I saw on TV & to see the behind-the-scenes setup. It threw me off, though, when they started to record the show's main person going on a rant, and after a minute, the director said, "Cut. Let's try take three."

Take three?? I thought this was reality TV!

The scene re-shoot became the first time I realized what you see on TV is not always what you get. What seems to be reality is often more of a fabrication than an unpolished version of life.
